5 things you Need to Know before you hire a Computer Repairs Company

The right computer repair service can really save the day, but the wrong one could wreck much more than your day. Your computer and often more importantly your data are of great importance to you, and you really should be careful about who you let repair it when things go wrong. You need aptitude, a great work ethic, care and attention to details, and possibly the most important of all you need a focus on the needs of the customer, (NOT the wants of the engineer).


  1. What does their website look like?
The internet is the greatest chance for a business to present itself to the world, and technology businesses in particular cannot afford to get this wrong. It's not all about sleek and flashy design, but at the very least i would look for an understanding of basic web site design, and you should think twice if their website looks scruffy and ugly. If they don't care enough to present to the internet well, how are they going to present to you? Looks are not everything of course, but a professional freelancer or company should present themselves as such. Technology websites that offer free advice, tools, and downloads are obviously going to greater lengths to help you before you book them, and that's a good sign.

    2. How do they sound on the phone?

Call them up and ask their advice about your problem. A good provider should have no problems with this (don't expect them to talk you through a repair though)

Will they put you though to an engineer for a chat?
Do they sound like they know what they are talking about?
Do you understand what they are saying?

An engineer should be able to talk to you in a way that you can understand. If it sounds like he's talking in buzz words and abbreviations then this should ring alarms bells. I have worked with a lot of low skilled IT guys who cover their lack of skill up by using buzzwords and abbreviations that they probably don't understand themselves.

   3. What happens if they can't fix it?

Do you still have to pay?

How to configure Active Desktop?


Active Desktop is a operating system feature that allows the user to add web content or HTML content to the desktop, along with some other features. Users can add HTML both in place of the regular wallpaper and as independent resizable desktop items. Items downloaded on-line can be regularly updated and synchronized so users can stay updated without visiting the website in their browser. Such as like weather report, currency updates, online calendar, etc. For active desktop you have to be installed it or enable. If you don't have Active Desktop enabled, you have to check whether it is moved off screen or it may not turn on for Show Desktop Icons.

To activate it right click on an empty space on the Desktop, choose ‘Arrange Icons’ on the context menu, then Auto-Arrange. It will arrange the icons in columns at the left of your screen. If hidden attribute is turned on for your desktop icons, you need to turn off it. Start ‘windows Explore’ by right click on ‘Start’ menu button and click on ‘Explore’. Click on ‘C:\Documents and Settings\ your user account name and then click on Desktop folder. Right click on Desktop folder and click on Properties. It will open Desktop properties box. In ‘General’ tab, remove check mark of “Hidden” attribute. Likewise, to show hidden shortcuts you need to click on the ‘Tools’ menu, and then select ‘Folder’ Options. Click on the View tab, in advance settings, select ‘Show hidden files and folders’ and also remove the check mark in front of ‘Hide extensions for known files types’, and make the check mark in front of ‘Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)’. Then click on ‘Ok’. Explorer will show this in gray color.

Enable or Disable Windows Active Desktop
  • Click on ‘Start’ menu button, select and click on ‘Control Panel’
  • Click on ‘Appearance and Themes’ for Category view and then click on ‘Display’ icon.
  • Click the ‘Desktop’ tab, Click the ‘Customize Desktop’ button
  • Desktop Items window will open, Click on ‘Web’ Tab
  • To enable the Active Desktop, make check mark to ‘My Current Home Page’ and then click on ‘New’ button
  • It will ask for location from where you want to add your desktop. You can Browse it and click ‘Ok’. It will add to web pages list.
  • Select it by making check mark in front the box and click on ‘Synchronize’ button to update the content.
  • To disable Active Desktop, remove all check marks from boxes in this window.

How to repair Internet Explore?


As we all know Internet Explorer is one of the most widely used web browsers. Internet Explorer is developed by Microsoft and integrated as part of the Microsoft Windows operating systems, starting in 1995. While using the browser you may accidentally delete a required file, then it may cause error messages to appear when using the program. Since it is integrated in operating system, it is not displayed in ‘Add/Remove Programs’ list to uninstall or reinstall separately.  Therefore it is difficult to reinstall the program, or repair Internet Explorer. To repair or reinstall Internet Explorer you may need to make some changes in windows registry or you can follow below steps which is easier:

Ø  First of make all hidden files to show. By opening ‘My computer’ or ‘Explore’, Click on ‘Tools’ menu and the select ‘Folder Options’
Ø  In Options window, click on ‘View’ tab
Ø  In View tab click on ‘Show hidden files and folders’ under ‘Advanced settings’
Ø  Click on ‘Apply’ and ‘Ok’
Ø  Then in ‘My computer’ click on ‘C:\windows\’ in that find ‘Inf’ folder
Ø  In Inf folder find ie.inf file. Right click on it and click on ‘Install’ from context menu

Or either way to reinstall Internet Explorer is enter the following command line in ‘Run’ box.
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf
Or remove it from control panel and reinstall it.

Ø  Click on ‘Start’ menu button, go to ‘Control Panel’
Ø  Double click on ‘Add or Remove Programs’ in classic view
Ø  In opened window at left side pane click on ‘Add/Remove Windows components’
Ø  It will show you windows component wizard, in that remove check mark of ‘Internet Explorer’ under components frame.
Ø  Click on ‘Next’
Ø  It will configure components and return to wizard
Ø  Click on ‘Finish’

It will remove Internet Explorer from your system now you can reinstall it.
